We are so happy with our butcher block, it is the centerpiece of our new kitchen. We ordered the butcher block unfinished and applied several coats of sealer, which brought out the natural beauty of the wood. We have only had it installed for a few weeks now, but we couldn't be more pleased with our purchase. The quality of Hardwood Lumber Company's wood is unparalleled to any other butcher block I have seen (we returned 3 from other big box stores before settling on this one). We highly recommend this product, I know this is something that will stand the test of time.

I looked online for ever trying to find the perfect wood cut and grain. Hardwood Lumber had the best variety and dimensions with affordable pricing. I couldn't be happier with the look and feel of the wood which gives and warmth to the kitchen. I ordered 3 sample sizes first to pick out the wood which were all beautiful. I would say the only flaw was that the sample sizes took almost longer to get in than the large sizes. Everyone who sees my kitchen immediately points to the countertops and asks where they are from. I also bought them unfinished and used walnut oil for the finish.
Sapele Wide Plank (Face Grain) Countertop
Hardwood Lumber Company specializes in manufacturing quality custom-made wide plank (face grain) countertops and wood countertops. All of our Sapele wood countertops and wood table tops are custom-made to your specifications at our manufacturing facility in Ohio. Custom wide plank countertops are made using random width planks that run the full length of our wide plank (face grain) countertop. Hardwood Lumber Company wide plank (face grain) countertops and wood countertops do not have any butt joints or finger joints. Custom wide plank countertops are made with board face turned up (flat grain). We can make custom Sapele wide plank countertops up to 1-3/4” thick, 84'' wide, and 186" long. Wide plank (face grain) countertops and wood countertops also make great wood desktops and wood table tops. Hardwood Lumber Company wood countertops and wood table tops can be purchased with a Poured Epoxy finish, an Acrylic Polyurethane finish, or a Mineral Oil finish. We offer a choice of clear finish or choose from a large selection of stain color options. We also offer unfinished wood countertops if you decide to finish your own wood countertop or wood table top. We offer custom sink cutouts and stove cutouts or any other custom cuts on all wood countertops we make. Most of our woodworkers are craftsmen from the local Amish community, providing great attention to quality and detail at every step of the manufacturing process. Wood countertops will add warmth to any kitchen or dining room not achievable with other countertop materials.
All wood countertops are custom made to order. All orders revised or cancelled after going into production (within 24 hours after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.
Our Countertops are made with a good top surface and four good sides. This means the bottom surface might have imperfections. Selecting the High-Grade Bottom Surface option allows you to have the bottom surface be the same grade as the top surface and four sides.
If you prefer to have your countertop sanded smooth and have no texture, be sure to select NONE in the Textures Options.
Wire Brushed texture works best on wood with an open grain, such as White Oak, Red Oak, and Ash. On other tighter grain wood species the Wire Brushed Texture will not have the same effect and will not be as visible.
Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown.

Sapele
Sapele is a reddish-brown wood that in many ways is very similar to mahogany. Sapele ranges from medium to fairly dark reddish-brown to purplish-brown. While sapele is similar in color to African mahogany, it is more durable than true mahoganies. The strength of sapele is similar to oak. We use only the higher quality grades of sapele lumber for our products.
