|ACRYLIC URETHANE FINISH. We use three coats of a two-component acrylic urethane developed from advanced European resin technology. This gives the butcher block countertops a hard and durable finish for superior resistance to abrasion, water, staining, household chemicals and body oils. The acrylic urethane used on our wood countertops contains UV absorbers and is formaldehyde free.
MINERAL OIL FINISH. We use two coats of a food-grade mineral oil on the top surface and all four sides of our butcher block countertops. The butcher blocks are sanded between each coat of mineral oil. Follow up maintenance coats need to be reapplied periodically to re-seal the wood butcher block. The bottom side of our butcher block countertops are sealed with an acrylic urethane sealer (to eliminate the need to re-seal the bottom).
All of our poplar butcher block countertops are custom-made to your specifications at our manufacturing facility in Burton, Ohio. Our staff consists mostly of local Amish woodworkers. We can make poplar butcher block countertops 3'' thick on smaller tops and up 72'' wide by 15' long. We also make wood countertops in mixed species.
Our poplar butcher block countertops are made from 1'' strips glued together running the full length of the top. We do not butt joint or finger joint any of our strips! We use a water-resistant glue for all the butcher blocks.
Poplar backsplashes are available to match your wood countertop.
POPLAR. Poplar sapwood is creamy white and may be streaked, while the heartwood can vary from pale yellowish brown to olive green. Poplar has a medium to fine texture and is straight-grained. Poplar takes and holds paint, enamel and stain exceptionally well. We use only the higher quality grades of poplar lumber for our butcher block countertops.
