|ACRYLIC URETHANE FINISH. We use three coats of a two-component acrylic urethane developed from advanced European resin technology. This gives the butcher block countertops a hard and durable finish for superior resistance to abrasion, water, staining, household chemicals and body oils. The acrylic urethane used on our wood countertops contains UV absorbers and is formaldehyde free.
MINERAL OIL FINISH. We use two coats of a food-grade mineral oil on the top surface and all four sides of our butcher block countertops. The butcher blocks are sanded between each coat of mineral oil. Follow up maintenance coats need to be reapplied periodically to re-seal the wood butcher block. The bottom side of our butcher block countertops are sealed with an acrylic urethane sealer (to eliminate the need to re-seal the bottom).
All of our hickory butcher block countertops are custom-made to your specifications at our manufacturing facility in Burton, Ohio. Our staff consists mostly of local Amish woodworkers. We can make hickory butcher block countertops 3'' thick on smaller tops and up 72'' wide by 15' long. We also make wood countertops in mixed species.
Our hickory butcher block countertops are made from 1'' strips glued together running the full length of the top. We do not butt joint or finger joint any of our strips! We use a water-resistant glue for all the butcher blocks.
Hickory backsplashes are available to match your wood countertop.
HICKORY. Hickory is the hardest, heaviest and strongest American wood. The sapwood of hickory is white, tinged with inconspicuous fine brown lines while the heartwood is pale to reddish brown. Hickory is coarse-textured and the grain is fine, usually straight but can be wavy or irregular. The wood can be sanded to a good finish. Hickory grain pattern welcomes a full range of medium-to-dark finishes. We use only the higher quality grades of hickory lumber for our butcher block countertops.
